A bowhunter in Montgomery Township was found dead near his stand on Thursday.

According to the Indiana County Coroner's Office, Alvin Albert Chura, 78, was discovered by his son shortly before 10 p.m. Chura’s family became concerned about him when he did not return from his hunting trip, and set out in search of him.

The elderly hunter’s body was found at the bottom of a wooden stairway leading to an elevated shooting house, which the man had used in the past.

Authorities say while there was some trauma to the victim, it likely occurred when he fell as a result of medical emergency such as a heart attack. An autopsy is to be performed.
